I develop games and I write. I have a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing and journalism. I like writing speculative fiction, horror and literary fiction, sometimes all blended together. You can find elements of my writing in my games, because I consider my games to be stories just that happen to have gameplay.

What do YOU like in an RM game?
The RPG Maker community is very vast and very diverse. Over the years, we have seen many different games be born and of course, many different styles of games too. Some do better than others, and some are ignored and fall by the wayside.
Thinking about this makes me wonder... What type of RM games do you feel are your favorite?
You could for example prefer the typical jRPG clones such as Legionwood that make up most RM communities, or perhaps you prefer the adventure and horror style RM games that are also popular, such as Ravenwood Horror or One Night.
Another type of RM game that some people enjoy may be a dungeon crawler such as Demon Tower, or else a nostalgic game that tries to emulate the old days, like Dragon Fantasy.

Wow, I never knew your current Demon Tower and Geondun games were remakes! You should release the originals so people can see how far you've come!
Best RM Games you've Ever Played
Oh come on... You guys don't even have half the popular new games here. I'm not forcing you to play some new games, but I certainly think you should. Prophecy Demon Kingdom for example is fantastic and many people think it rivals The Way.

4) Ravenwood Horror
5) CREPUSCULUM X
6) Lurking Under Life
7) Epoch and Epoch 2 (really obscure these two, but I liked them)
8) Everything Turns Grey
9) Aveyond
10) Everlong

I don't think it was people responding for that reason exactly.
I think most people responded just to point out that the guy was sounding very arrogant and making generalizations. I'm not exactly sure any indie developers would have liked his comments basically saying that they have no life outside of game making.

Indie Movie means "Movie created Independantly from the Studios (The big LA ones)".
For games it's the same.
RPG Maker games would be Indie if RPG Maker 2k and 3 wasn't pirated software.
Ah, but XP and VX AREN'T pirated, and commercial games that were made in them are for all intents and purposes classed as "indie" by the gaming industry as a whole.
I don't think maker is relevant though. If you are making your game on your own without input from anyone else, you are making an indie game. Fine, RM comes with pre made parts, but most RM games use custom scripts anywho and it's not as if Enterbrain has any input whatsoever into what your individual game contains and is like.

You shouldn't be afraid of posting your game for any factor at all. One thing I've learned is that if you think you are bad at game making, the only way to improve is to learn what you need to do better.
The best way to do that is to let others play your game. You may feel bad that they don't like it (they may even like it anyway) but when it comes down to it, they are not going to flame you and laugh at you, they want to see you make a better game so they will tell you what needs to be done.
It takes practise to make good games, just like anything, and how will you learn to improve without first seeing what people think you need to improve on?

IF anything, the term Indie just means that you are developing your work on your own INDEPENDANTLY from anything or anyone else. Thus, in a literal sense, ameteurs ARE indie developers too, another thing wrong with this guy's article: He is using his own opinion of which is which rather than the more commonly accepted classification.
